Sandman 8x6x14 Vertical Magnum Pump

Sandman® Vertical Magnum is a single-stage, vertically mounted centrifugal pump purpose-built for handling abrasive slurries, drilling mud, and solids-laden fluids in demanding environments like wet pits and offshore or onshore drilling setups.

The vertical configuration requires the least amount of deck space of any Magnum-style pump arrangement, which is exactly why it's become the standard choice for feeding solids-control equipment on rigs where every square foot of deck matters.

8x6x14 Vertical Magnum's spare parts are fully interchangeable with the horizontal Mission pump's parts, and the design does not require separate bearings or a mechanical seal, since the vertical units feature interchangeable parts with their horizontal counterparts, allowing for cost-effective spares management across a mixed fleet of vertical and horizontal pumps.

Design Features

Sandman® Vertical Magnum series share its wet-end parts with the rest of the Magnum I series pumps, which means it inherits the same wear-resistant, low-turbulence engineering that has made the horizontal Magnum a standard on drilling rigs worldwide:

Open impeller with wide-tipped vanes A more tangential suction circumference creates a smoother flow pattern when handling abrasive fluids.
Thicker casing Extends service life against wear and corrosion.
Replaceable shaft sleeve Located in the packing wear area, so the sleeve, not the shaft, takes the wear.
Replaceable stuffing box Keeps repair costs down in the highest-wear zone of the pump.
Smooth, non-turbulent flow path Maintained throughout the casing to reduce cavitation and vibration.
Common power end The Magnum I platform, from 3x2x13 through 8x6x14, shares the same power end architecture, so vertical and horizontal units across a fleet draw from the same spare-parts pool.

Why Go Vertical Type Pump?

Sandman Horizontal Magnum I 8x6x14 is a proven workhorse, but not every installation has the floor space: or the piping arrangement, to accommodate a horizontally mounted pump and its baseplate. The vertical configuration solves that in a few specific ways:
