Submersible Liquid Transfer Pump
If you’ve ever stood at the edge of a flooded sump or a muddy excavation, watching a worn-out pump struggle, you know a good liquid pump is rarely noticed until it fails. The Hydroman® TBZ615 is an electric, single-stage submersible centrifugal pump. It sits below the water line and pushes liquid out, so you don’t have to fight suction lift, prime a hose, or babysit a surface unit.
It’s also built as a complete replacement for the KBZ615. If a KBZ615 on your site is worn out, failing, or hard to source, the TBZ615 lets you swap it without redesigning your pipework or installation.
A surface-mounted liquid suction pump has to pull water up to itself. At sea level, atmospheric pressure caps theoretical suction lift at about 10.3 m (33.9 ft), and in practice you’ll see 6 to 8 m once you account for friction, temperature, and altitude. Beyond that, the pump cavitates and loses prime.
A submersible pump skips the problem. The liquid is already at the impeller, so the motor’s job is entirely pushing. The surrounding liquid also cools the motor, which is why a submersible electric liquid pump can run at high duty for long periods when it’s correctly submerged. That’s the main reason submersible designs dominate construction dewatering, sump drainage, and pit cleanup.
What the TBZ615 Gives You
Direct submersible operation. Drop it into the sump, connect the discharge line, connect power. No priming and no suction-side plumbing to leak air.
Electric drive. Where mains or generator power is available, an electric fluid transfer pump runs cleaner and quieter than an engine-driven unit, with no exhaust and no fuel logistics. It matters in tunnels, basements, and enclosed plant rooms.
Single-stage centrifugal design. A single impeller spins the liquid outward and converts that velocity into flow and head. Single-stage pumps are simple and compact, with few wearing parts, and they handle high flow at moderate head better than almost any alternative. That makes the TBZ615 a practical choice as a transfer pump for water.
KBZ615 compatibility. Matching a replacement to the original is usually where projects stall. The TBZ615 is designed to take over from the KBZ615, so you can keep your existing installation approach and avoid re-engineering.

Where the TBZ615 Earns Its Keep
Construction dewatering. Rain-filled foundations, trenches, and excavations need to be cleared quickly. Submersible pumps can be lowered straight in and moved as the water level drops, which is hard to do with a surface pump on a long suction hose.
Sump and pit drainage. Basements, lift pits, utility vaults, and plant sumps collect water continuously. A submersible transfer pump sits at the bottom and switches on when needed, ideally with a float switch or level controller.
Industrial water transfer. Factories move process water, cooling water, and washdown runoff constantly. Compatibility depends on temperature and chemistry, so check the wetted materials against your liquid.
Replacement and maintenance projects. If your site already runs KBZ615 units, standardizing on the TBZ615 keeps your spare-parts logic simple and your installation geometry unchanged.

Choosing the Right Liquid Transfer Pump
The best transfer pump for water on one site can be the wrong choice on another. Here are the questions worth working through.
What exactly are you pumping? Clean or lightly contaminated water suits a centrifugal pump well. Gritty slurries, fibrous material, and large solids call for pumps with wider passages or dedicated solids-handling impellers. Check the maximum particle size in the datasheet.
How much flow, and against what head? Total dynamic head is the vertical lift plus friction losses in the pipe and fittings. A useful conversion: 1 bar of pressure equals roughly 10.2 m of water head. Pump curves show flow falling as head rises, so choose a pump whose duty point lands in the efficient middle of its curve. A pump forced to run far off its best efficiency point wears faster and wastes energy. For context, pumping systems account for roughly one-fifth of the world’s electrical motor energy consumption, so a well-matched pump saves real money over its life.
How hot is the liquid? Many standard submersible pumps are rated for liquids up to around 40°C (104°F). A hot liquid pump needs motor insulation, seals, and elastomers rated for the higher temperature, and the liquid’s vapor pressure will also reduce available suction head. Always confirm the TBZ615’s maximum liquid temperature on the datasheet before using it with warm process water.
What’s the power situation? Confirm voltage, phase, frequency, cable length, and the protection or control gear you’ll use.

A Straight Answer on Viscous and High-Pressure Duties
This is a topic where many buyers get misled, so here’s the plain version.
Water has a viscosity of about 1 cP at 20°C. As viscosity climbs, a centrifugal pump loses performance. Under Hydraulic Institute guidance, viscosity corrections to flow, head, and efficiency start to matter at only a few centistokes, and by the time you reach the range of heavy oils, syrups, or thick sludges, efficiency can collapse. Past a few hundred centistokes, positive displacement designs such as gear, progressive cavity, or lobe pumps are usually the right answer.
So if your search was for a pump for high viscosity fluid, a thick liquid transfer pump, or a viscous liquid pump, the TBZ615 is not the tool. It’s built as a water and light-liquid transfer pump, and we’d rather say so than sell you something that disappoints you in service.
The same goes for high-pressure duty. A single-stage centrifugal delivers moderate head by design. If you need very high discharge pressure, a multistage pump or a positive displacement pump is the appropriate choice.
Where the TBZ615 fits is what most sites actually need: moving large volumes of water and similar low-viscosity liquid at moderate head, reliably and without fuss.

Keep the pump fully submerged during operation, since running dry overheats the motor and seals. Support it so it isn’t sitting in deep silt, and put it on a plinth or in a basket if you’re working in muddy conditions. Use a float switch or level controller for automatic sump duty, and inspect the cable, discharge connection, and inlet screen regularly. A blocked inlet is the most common reason for falling flow.
What is a submersible liquid transfer pump?
It’s a pump designed to operate while immersed in the liquid it’s moving. The motor and pump end are sealed as one unit, and the surrounding liquid helps cool the motor.
Can the TBZ615 replace the KBZ615?
Yes. The Hydroman® TBZ615 is designed as a complete replacement for the KBZ615. Please confirm your operating conditions and installation details before ordering.
Is the TBZ615 suitable for viscous liquids?
It’s designed for water and similar low-viscosity liquids. Thick or high-viscosity fluids reduce centrifugal pump performance sharply, and a positive displacement pump is normally the better choice.
Can it handle hot liquids?
That depends on the rated maximum liquid temperature, seal materials, and motor cooling. Check the TBZ615 datasheet and talk to us if your liquid is above normal ambient temperatures.
What do I need to send for a replacement quote?
Send the existing pump model, a clear nameplate photo, rated flow, head, power, voltage, discharge size, and a photo of the installation.
