API610 OH1 vs OH2 Pumps — Application Difference

 

OH1: General process + transfer + utility
OH2: Heavy-duty process + high-temperature + critical refinery/petrochemical service
However, this is a selection tendency, not an absolute rule. OH1 and OH2 classifications describe the pump's mechanical configuration; they do not by themselves specify the pump's flow, pressure or temperature capability.
 

If a refinery needs to transfer a relatively moderate-temperature hydrocarbon:
→ OH1 may be suitable
If the refinery needs to circulate high-temperature vacuum bottoms or HVGO:
→ OH2 is typically a more appropriate configuration
This is because OH2's centerline-mounted casing is better suited to managing thermal effects in demanding services.
