Magflow® Boiler Feed Water Pump Product Description

Magflow® TDG series  Multistage Boiler Feed water Pump is a high-efficiency horizontal, single-suction, sectional multistage centrifugal pump designed specifically for heating and industrial water supply systems. It is primarily engineered for delivering clear water or non-corrosive liquids with physical and chemical properties similar to water at temperatures not exceeding 105°C. The pump is widely utilized in critical sectors such as power generation units, metallurgical heating, and district heating systems.

 

Magflow® Boiler Feed Water Pump Design Features

Magflow® TDG series of pumps adopts a single-casing, single-suction, horizontally sectional construction, with the suction nozzle located above the front (suction) section and the discharge nozzle oriented vertically upward. The core components comprise the following three major modules:

 

Stationary Components

  • Main Body Clamping: The suction section, intermediate (stage) sections, guide vanes (diffusers), discharge section, bearing housing, and balance chamber cover are tightly joined together by through-bolts and nuts (tie rods), forming a rigid, unified assembly.
  • Base Mounting: Both the suction section and discharge section are securely bolted to the pump base (bedplate) on either side.

 

Rotor / Drive-Train Components

  • Locking and Anti-Rotation: The impellers, impeller spacer sleeves, balance drum sleeve, balance disc, and shaft sleeves are assembled onto the main shaft as a unit, secured at the shaft end with a round (slotted) locknut, and prevented from rotating relative to the shaft by keys (parallel keys).
  • Support and Coupling: The rotor assembly is supported at both ends by bearings and is directly driven by the motor via a flexible pin-and-bush (spider) coupling.
  • Thermal Compensation Design: A serrated (crown-tooth) shim is installed between the last-stage impeller and the balance drum sleeve to absorb thermal expansion stresses (Note: this shim must be replaced during every major overhaul of the pump).

 

Axial Thrust Balancing Mechanism

  • Fully Automatic Balancing: A hydraulic balance disc device—consisting of the balance seat (balance head), balance disc, balance sleeve, and balance drum sleeve—is employed to achieve continuous, automatic balancing of axial thrust during operation.

Magflow® TDG Boiler feed pumps (BFPs) are critical high-pressure pumps used to deliver water into boilers/steam generators against operating pressure. Key applications include:

 

Power Generation

  • Thermal (coal-fired) power plants – supplying feedwater to utility boilers, often the largest and highest-pressure BFP applications
  • Combined-cycle / HRSG plants – feeding heat recovery steam generators, frequently at multiple pressure levels (HP/IP/LP)
